Reflect on Your Leadership Qualities During the Summer Lull

We’ve all experienced those slow summer work days when it feels like half of the work force is out of the office and emails go unreturned for days. Whether you work with outside vendors or routinely meet with clients, a summer lull inevitably happens in every industry.

This summer lull gives many of us time to reflect on our careers and examine what changes, if any, we want to make to our personal and professional aspirations. During this time of reflection, consider your strong suits and determine areas that you can develop further. Are there certain leadership qualities (such as being fearless, poised, composed, kind, etc.) you want to incorporate into your personality? Write down these qualities and review them with a mentor or trusted friend. By working with your mentor to identify how you can better incorporate these qualities into your day-to-day actions, you will strengthen your leadership acumen and address your weaker traits. And, when you finish analyzing your own development plan, you can offer to help your mentor with their leadership qualities, reverse mentor style.
